Hello, I'm a 17 year old from Chicago thinking of going to college at Cal State Long Beach. My parents have told me that the campus is in the "ghetto" of Long Beach. What is the campus like? The Surrounding areas etc. I'd just like to hear local reaction to Cal State Long Beach..
Thank You! |

Your dad needs to do more research. As kcolon said, CSULB is in the nicest part of Long Beach, not to mention, the adjoining neighborhoods.

i think it's so hilarious what people think. has your father been to long beach in the past ten years or so? i'm sure that twenty years ago, like a lot of american cities, it wasn't the best place to be. but, the campus is beautiful, is in the safest, nicest part of Long Beach and has a great vibe to it. My husband went there for his undergrad and they were really nuturing and the programs they offered were great (and that's coming from a UC system snot like myself. I'm jealous of CSULB. He had a lot more attention than I ever did). We are moving soon, but live in East Long Beach. Your Dad has it backwards. There are about two bad blocks and the rest is nice (exaggeration of course, but to prove a point). There is no place in Long Beach that I'd really feel unsafe that is anywhere near CSULB. If you are looking into business admin, i'd highly recommend it, btw.
