I am visiting the Los Angeles area for the second time in 6 months and I am very surprised of the lack of Black Americans I see through out the city and surrounding areas. I'm visiting from the east coast and it's a little odd not seeing a certain amount of Black Americans in the population. What's the deal?

Well LA isn't Atlanta. There are a lot of latinos in LA. Regardless, there are lots of blacks in LA...they just don't dominate the population.

No deal. You wont see many Mexican-Americans in St Louis either. Certain areas of the country are more Asian, some are more white, some are hispanics, some are blacks.

I'm realizing that. I'm experiencing a little culture shock, because I have been living in Atlanta for the past 20 years and New York City before that. LOL!

True, they are not predominant since of course Hispanics dominate here but there are quite a few here in LA county. Many of them got outpriced from LA back when the community was quite large and ended up in the desert. If you go to Palmdale, Lancaster, Victorville, San Bernardino, Bakersfield and Moreno Valley you will find a large chunk that ended up there.
