Seriously, The traffic has reached the point where the rush hour starts at 5:30 am and runs til about 9pm.
If this area continues growing at the rate its grown over the last 5 years then there will be no point in getting in the car; walking will be faster.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, but dealing with all that crap is still better than living here in Michigan. Trust.

Visited for the first time from the east coast and fell in love with it. Making plans to move as we speak. I love SOCAL!

You should reconsider. Next year toilet to tap will be instituted, with very poor filtration. I hope you like poopwater.

Is it that bad? Music videos and films always portray the city as a paradise or dreamland. I wish I was there. Is the reality of it the opposite?

I live in Atlanta and so sick of it here. Has some same problems listed by the OP. The people suck. The city has no personality or character. All those rap videos you saw of this place is not real. This place is super boring, and the people consider some of the lamest activities "fun". Everyone is self-absorbed and unfriendly, but act polite when in front of you. I was hoping LA was better. Its culturally different right? I don't like the South very much.

This.

LA is a beautiful city and everyone I know feels blessed to live here, including myself. Most of my friends are LA natives (or at least SoCal natives)tho, I've noticed that it's usually the transplants that are complaining. And not so much foreigners from other countries, I'm talking about US transplants from other states. Whenever I hear somebody yelling in traffic or making a big scene in a store/restaurant etc. it's almost always somebody with a thick ass southern or east coast accent. I don't know what makes these people so miserable and unhappy, maybe it's the state they grew up in, who knows.

Oh, come on.That's not always true. Southern accents? I barely hear them at all here. I wish I could hear more southern accents sometimes. I agree the natives are very warm and mellow people. They don't complain and I agree that the east coast transplants can be a pill especially when they start to go on and on about LA having no culture or "real" people and think only West LA counts. Now that's annoying.
Has anyone noticed that the affluent areas are full of east coast transplants? If not, the natives are first or 2nd generation from east coast transplant parent or grand parents. There is always some connection to the east coast mostly NY. I rarely see multi generational natives Californians in the upper echelons of this city, especially in the move biz. Of course it's there I'm generalizing but I've noticed a significant east coast presence among the affluent.

Theres a lot of them in Long Beach. Because of the VA there I'm guessing (many of them are older Veterans).
