It refers to jobs that actually create a service or product that is "exported" out of the region. Generally high value add industries like entertainment, design, engineering, etc.

A retail clerk at a CVS drugstore would not count...

So aerospace is still big in LA

Is it mostly military aerospace? Does LA have a large military industrial complex?

Also what was the biggest economic drivers that cause the different groups to each immigrate here. Like I guess during the pre-war and post WW2 booms, what made many people from back east move to LA? What made many mexican legal and illegal settle here making the 2nd largest mexican city in the world? Obviously there is a lot of asians. What made the chinese or filipinos settle here?

Depends upon one's def of econ drivers...

Perhaps 100-300 guys in Manhattan and Greenwich pay all the tax bills in NYC/CT/NJ and are arguably the "drivers"....prob guys in hedge funds or real est

Same can be said for similar no. in Woodside/Atherton/PaloAlto/SF for SV...prob guys in software or hedge funds

And same for BevHills/Westside vs LA region...prob guys in hedge funds, real est, or entertnmt...and don't forget a lot of big software guys from SV/Seatt have wkend places in BH area
