Trader Joe is like a cult where they only hire people that can at least pretend to be happy, friendly and helpful to everyone.

Yeah, Trader Joe's has its own niche and style. Whole Foods is just overpriced, IMO.

TJ's is also a local company (based in Monrovia)... whereas Whole Foods is from California's sworn arch-enemy, Texas.

You can use your Kroger Plus card at Ralph's. Conversely you can also use a Ralph's Rewards card at Kroger......and yes you'll often get weird looks when you do it.

I shop at Whole Foods and I am upper middle class not rich at all. Now granted TJ's has way cheaper and better prices but Whole Food has way better quality. Do you guys have Fresh Market in LA, its more of a Southern chain its sort of a mix of Whole Foods and Trader Joe's.

When I lived in LA, I never even walked into a Whole Foods because I knew I couldn't afford it. Whole Paycheck! Trader Joe's, on the other hand, is awesome. But I did check out the new Downtown Whole Foods location and it was very nice.

Whole foods has outstanding quality, but most of their prices are insane to the point of being a rip-off.
There are a few ethnic and latino markets that have good prices, especially on fruits and veggies.
Jons, Liborio are chain supers and their pricing beats the big chains.

For anyone living in the siverlake area, whole foods is opening their "365" whole foods in place of a Ralph's real soon. It's a whole foods with lesser expensive items. I know this because I work for whole foods and I saw the job posting for a store team leader. I'm currently in the process of transferring and moving to LA through whole foods.
