I just took a trip to Los Angeles, and I love it! I didn't want to return home to NJ. I seriously would love living here. I love the sunshine (the cloudy days in NJ are depressing). The people are much friendlier, and just seem happier. There is so much to do! I was thinking about moving here and attending an acting school, and attempt to "make it" in the business. I am a 25 year old man, no kids or dependents, with about 25K in savings. My family and friends think I'm absolutely crazy with this idea. Now, I don't mean to brag, but I am very attractive. People notice me from across the room even (both men and women) and stare. I'm not imagining this either. Sorry for the long post. Can anyone give me some advice/opinions on my plan? Please be completely honest.

I can totally relate to you, dude. I don't have anywhere near the amount of savings that you do, but my mom says that I'm very good looking and I have a great personality. I was even an actor in one of my high school plays! I'm so sick of the weather here. I've never been to California, but every time that I see it on TV or the movies it is always sunny and all of the people seem to be so happy. I'm also planning to move to LA and I know that I'll make it big in the acting business!!!

Most people just come here with a dream, but I see you've put a lot of thought into your plan. You should totally do it.

I suggest you start looking for someone to rent with in Boyle Heights or South Central. If you want to be close to the action of downtown, then Skidrow is perfect for your budget! Don't forget about the daily celebrities who walk down Beverly Hills! If you're nice enough and strike up a conversation with Kardashion, she will gladly take you out for a cup of coffee and befriend you :-)

If you don't mind commuting abit, try hitting up the Salton Sea or Barstow. Lots of open space and not too far from LA. You'll be surrounded by beautiful mountains and lakes. The people are friendly and you'll be gladly welcomed.

The OP didn't specify a budget. But I wouldn't recommend moving to LA solely in hopes of "making it". 25K in savings is really good, but please come with a marketable skill or career path.

A 25k down payment would be like buying a 200k (200,000$) home. Morgage would be a good 1.2k a month plus food expenses and transportation.

The OP only said they would be coming with 25k in savings. That doesn't mean anything in regards to their budget...only how much they would have to live on until they found a job.

Keep in mind that there are tens of thousands of people here who are as attractive or more attractive than you. The 1% of the most attractive people in the world move here to try to make it. So if you really are as attractive as you think you are (doubtful) than you are a big fish in a small pond now and that won't be the case here

And where are you going to find a house or even a condo for anywhere near $200k in LA?
