Hi --

I'm planning a brief (4-day) visit to the L.A. area in a couple of months, and would appreciate suggestions on what area of town to stay in. I'm coming out to investigate the area prior to a potential move, rather than to sightsee, so don't need to be near Disney, Universal, etc.

What I do need is a location from which I can easily get around (I'll have a rental car), and that will be relatively safe and reasonably priced. (And, yes, I understand that "safe" and "reasonable" are very subjective concepts ..... )

Thanks in advance for your helpful suggestions~~~

Ignore that Willowbrook advice - that was a troll remark.

I'd stay at one of the hotels in the Culver City/Fox Hills area. It's near the airport but not at the airport, it's a nice area and reasonably priced and next to the 405 freeway as well as not too far from the 10 freeway. It's also centrally located on the west side where you'll find a lot of middle to upper middle class neighborhoods to investigate.

I stayed at the LAX Plaza on Bristol Parkway in July 2006, primarily because I was going to a concert at the Fourm in Inglewood. The hotel was near the Fox Hills Mall and the Howard Hughes Shopping Area. It was also near Sepulveda and Centenella. I'm not from the area but I go there a few times, but I might be wrong on the details slightly.

Where might you work? That will help determine where you might live. And that will determine where you might look which allows us to respond to where you might want to stay for your visit.

Working in downtown versus Pasadena vs Orange County vs the San Fernando Valley, .....etc???

The beach cities. Since this post is 6 months old, did you come for a visit and where did you end up?

Ummmmmm, huh? I just posted yesterday .....

To answer the previous poster -- I don't know where I'll be working yet. I'm not actually looking for housing (or a job) at this point, just trying to get a feel for the city.

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

I suggest you stay in West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Century City, or Santa Monica. You can get really good deals on hotels if you look on Priceline and name your price. Since it's just for four days, I would stay in a nice area and drive around from there. Enjoy it!
