Last night when out walking I heard crickets. I do not believe I've ever before heard crickets in January. Has anybody else noticed odd, untimely wildlife behavior recently?

I took notice of them in Long Beach also. I agree, odd for January.

The spread of crickets has been ridiculous, maybe it is the drought, global warming, people not watering as much, lack of predators, who knows. They do quite down at a certain temperature.

It's Global Cricketing. And it's Obama's fault.

But there should only be cricket eggs in winter, rather than crickets walking about and chirping.

WHat you're hearing may be mole crickets, which can reproduce prolifically and in short periods of good weather.

Our pest guy said they're non-destructive but a big nuisance.

Lots of them out and about this year in Nor Cal.

Unlike the Eastern US there are indeed year round crickets here in CA.

They do seem to peak during Fall and some years into Early Winter, but are never completely absent.
