Kings, Staples Center will host 2017 All-Star Weekend

Great news. Good for the city. I'm a little surprised it hasn't hosted in recent years. Staples Center is in a good location and is also an awesome arena, LA Live is good for visitors, and the Kings are a dominant team.

How is this good news? No one gives a crap about any of the 4 major sports' all star games. They are all a joke.

The concept of an all star games is now dated and stale, but the festivities do bring out lots of locals who participate and spend money to do so.

I agree, no fun to watch. The team owners don't want their $7-10M/yr. players getting injured so it's nothing like watching "real" full contact NHL hockey.

Yes. I agree that the game itself isn't really interesting anymore, but it's a fun weekend to have around.

The all star game is actually a bit more entertaining now with the 3 on 3 concept.

Yeah it wasn't too bad. The Pro Bowl had me bored, though.

The Kings have won 2 Stanley Cup titles in the last 5 years and almost no one in LA cares. I'm sure an All-Star game is going to get people interested.

The All-Star game is an economic engine whose almost sole purpose is to get out of town folks to come to the host city and spend money.

maybe you don't care, but I think you'd be surprised how big the fan base is for the Kings. they've sold out every home game for the past 5 seasons or so and are looking like contenders again this year. LA isn't a sports town like Chicago where a million people will take off work to watch a parade, but don't be fooled.

The fan base of the Kings is definitely big. I don't see how someone can say nobody cares. As you mentioned, they are currently riding a very long consecutive sellout streak.
