My boyfriend and I are relocating from Northern Ohio to Southern California. I'm considering a job in Brea but we would like to live in Pasadena. Anyone familiar with this commute? I know it's a hike but really, how bad will it be? Any rough estimates on time?
Any other suggestions for fun neighborhoods that would allow a reasonable commute? He'll be working near Commerce. We're mid-late 20's w/o kids - we'd like an active neighborhood ideally with great independent restuarants and local laid back watering holes. We plan to spend up to $2800/mo to rent a house/apt. Thanks in advance for your help! |

horrible... it will kill both of you and I'm not joking. How about living in Brea, Fullerton, La Mirada or one of the surrounding areas?

Oh man, that is 40 min. with NO traffic! With traffic, you can double that easily.
Will you work "normal" hours? If so, don't even attempt it. Seriously, what I would do is to stay in a hotel for a couple of weeks and really look around before getting an apt. It may cost you a bit up front, but getting a lease in the wrong area is the worst! Dawn |

Well...I just moved from Pasadena...great city...getting insanely expensive and congested.... Check out Diamond Bar or Chino Hills or Brea itself....or what about San Dimas?? ....Brea is a solid 25 -30 minutes without traffic from Pasadena from the 210 east to the 57 south....... with traffic thats a whole different story as both sides of the 210 freeway have become an insane monster over the last 8 years or so....too many people

I would try to stay in some cheap apartment at first, (maybe something like a student apartment) with a lease of a 3-4 months, so I can check the whole area out and find an apartment that best suits me. I am really fussy into relocating, and knowing the area where I am going perfectly is the first thing that I usually try to do all the time

Google maps says about 41 minutes without traffic, 1 hour and 30 minutes with traffic. Their estimates are usually pretty close. And remember that with rain or accidents the time will be much longer.
I have said this many times in other posts. A good rule of thumb is to assume 10-15 mph on surface streets and anywhere from 15-25 mph on freeways during rush hour. You can figure out the distance and then apply those numbers to get a rough idea of how long the commute might be. And I would err on the side of being conservative. |
