Yeah pretty sure crime was generally worse 14 years ago, even since 10 years ago. I was recalling how I haven't been seeing nearly as many little altars to the dead on the sidewalk as I did in my middle school years, those were pretty crazy prevalent thinking of it now.

Of course that was actual LA, I dunno about that specific little parcel of LA County you're from.

Even though there's been a slight uptick in crime, it's prolly nothing compared to 14 years ago or even compared to some cities now.

I've been here for 39 years and I haven't noticed many changes in quality of life. I've never been affected by whatever crime there is because I don't hang out in crime ridden areas. Real estate has gotten way more expensive since you left, but basically it feels the same to me.

Depends on where you are/were. 15 years ago my non-english-speaking-working-immigrant family somehow afford to live in Beverly Hills. If you were in the hoods it was harsh times. Overall LA has become much betterplace to live only if you can put up with high cost of living. But I do miss how LA used to be 15-20 yrs ago. Living in LA was actually cheap, good paying jobs were plentiful even without a degree, and much less traffic I remember. Now I'm 35, married with decent income and a house that we bought at a good time. Getting by ok here but hopefully I can get that job at Chevron that I interviewed yesterday.
