That's the unintended consequence of having a conversation over the Internet. No body language or facial expression to set the tone, so everything tends to sound more "cold", in a sense.

It's the main reason people put smiley's, or "lol's" in text messages when they are trying to convey something light-hearted or funny. I see no need for that here.

2030 is so far away. At least we'll have the Expo line to Santa Monica soon.

It's too bad the Orange Line wasn't built as rail, because if it were at first then I think a line across through Glendale, Burbank, and into Pasadena woule be under construction right now. Also the Valley would have mode TODs. They are never going to convert it.

Yeah.. its kinda of silly to wait and stop for a bus when its like intended for a train..

^^ The Orange Line being converted to rail has been discussed before and metro has done feasibility studies for it.

The fact that it's not connected to other lines would require Metro to find space where they could construct a vehicle maintenance facility, which would add to the estimated 1.2-1.6 billion dollar price tag to convert the line.

It will happen one day, but those high profile projects tend to get pushed aside since other transit needs have a higher priority.

Indeed. I don't remember why exactly they chose BRT instead of light rail for the Orange line, but I seem to recall one of the county supervisors having a lot to do with it.

As you said though, Metro would rather build more lines and other high profile projects than go back and upgrade a completed project.

It wasn't "like" poor foresight. It was a calculated decision. Brt costs way less than rail and the Orange line is actually considered a huge success.

Thats not what so many think.. A whole lot of people think it ain't much of a success or like a bad idea mainly cause its overcrowded and doesn't like have the capacity.

Long story short, here's why the Orange Line is BRT:

-Metro wanted to build rail of some kind in SFV that would connect to the NoHo Red Line Station

-A religious group in SFV had an obscure rule--and surface rail that would break that rule

-This religious group got politicians to ban surface rail in SFV, only allowing subway (Robbins Bill)

-Metro did not have the money nor any plan to build a subway system through the not-so-dense SFV

-Metro built the Orange Line BRT instead of rail

Orange Line conversion is being talked about now because the Robbins Bill was recently turned over. However, there are plenty of other projects in line for funding, so don't hold your breath waiting.
