You're joking, right?

I lived in Manhattan for much longer than a year and I, along with many others, can tell you this is totally false.

Downtown Long Beach is pretty urban as well. Like someone else said pick a place close to your work.

I take pretty much nothing you say seriously, and this post is no different.

OP, DTLA is your best shot, but as everyone else said, you will be very disappointed if you look for NYC in L.A. They are opposite in many ways.
Koreatown has a number of bars that are open 24 hours a day. Not sure how they get away with it, but they do. It helps if you know a Korean person who speaks Korean since they're all culturally-Korean establishments though. They don't let in many non-Koreans.

Never really been IN NYC, just passed through it when I was 12. My dad was stationed in Connecticut.

I'd say that L.A. has NYC ish areas like DTown, HWood, and KTown.

Take NYC, mash it until a good portion of it is flat, messy and all over the place. Bam, you got L.A.

I'd say they share the same DNA(grid system, diversity and both being the two largest cities in the U.S., LA once had a huge rail system). But raised by different parents.
