Sunshine is great and helps and all but it's different living and working somewhere than it is vacationing somewhere. Paying the bills is serious bizness.

Just to echo what Mr_Geek said, the OP's dream is comparable to wanting to move to Hawaii after having vacationed there. Hawaii is indeed a nice place to visit, but living there is a whole different matter. There's nothing wrong with wanting a change of scenery from time to time, but you have to be realistic about your life and expectations.

I would come out to California on a familiarization trip for a week or so and try to experience things from a "local's" POV. Stay in an AirBnB or some other short-term rental away from the touristy areas to get a feel for the quality of life as well as cost of living.
