Some privately-held companies offer shares to their employees, startups do it all the time. It's too bad your friends weren't offered any, I think the company will do very well.

I know someone who got laid off a few years ago. They were making like $100 an hour at Ratheon. They finally got rehired but for quite a bit less. Maybe $65 an hour.

Some of the higher paying blue collar contractor positions use to make $100/hour. Those days are long gone. $65/hour is also an anomaly, your friend should consider him/her self lucky.

I think its worse here now, then it was in 2008/09. Its gotten very bad. I have 25 years experience in my field, a degree & 4 years of military service under my belt & I cant even get a 10$ an hour warehouse gig. Its BAD out here.

What field is your degree in? Four year or two year? WHat about prior work experience. SpaceX, Raytheon and Northrop all have local positions available.

The jobs that pay well require things like advanced degrees with licenses. Jobs with substantial barriers to employment generally pay much better, and have better benefits.

What licenses are you referring to? What the heck are "substantial barriers"?
