Now that I've decided I'm staying for a few years, I'm thinking about buying instead of paying $2200+ to rent. My limit is $430k because that's the magic number where I can do 3.5% down payment. That could get me a 3 bed condo in Burbank. But I'm willing to do a longer commute if I can take the gold line into Burbank and get a house or larger 3 bed condo for the same money or less. It looks like Simi is an option. Anything else that is worth considering that would be around an hour by train?

The Gold Line doesn't go to Burbank.

Simi is nice but there is nothing to do there.

OK, well whichever train goes to Burbank. Don't care about things to do other than cycling and hiking and being safe with good schools

Well, Simi is super safe, has really good schools, and lots of access to nature.

Sounds like Simi it is then. You could even take the Metrolink, although the drive isn't that bad.

Could look into SCV. Not sure which areas there have the best schools.

I would be fine doing an hour by train where I can watch Netflix, read or do work. If I have to drive I would rather stick to Burbank or north Glendale and get a little less for my money

Is your office in downtown Burbank or the media district?
