I currently live in the Long Beach area, as of recently I've been wanting to move closer to work which is in the LAX area. I feel the Westmont,West Athens, or the Gramercy Park area give me the most value for my money. Not to mention the potential of a new stadium in the Inglewood area. If any one who lives in that area please shed some light on the crime rate for that area. Its had to gage the scale of crime in that area since the zip codes always incorporate other cities and areas that are high in crime. I know traditionally the area has had tension between the latino and African Amercian communities. I am Latino but I don't engage any of the racial pride nonsense. I'm a very private person that rarely interacts with anyone in my immediate neighborhood. Please any information would help.

While I don't live in that area, I've seen plenty of news stories and read enough crime stats to know that these areas are very bad, gang infested areas. That being said, Westmont is the worst. For areas that only range in 1-2 square miles in size, there is a very heavy concentration of violent crime. There's a reason why those areas are cheap.

Can you afford to live somewhere a little better like Gardena or perhaps near the northern boundary of Torrance? Are you looking to rent or buy a home?

I would look into Gardena, North Torrance, Alondra Park or Ladera. I wouldn't chance Westmont or West Athens.

Torrance, Gardena, Ladera - get you hardly any property compared to the lot sizes in the westmont, athens area.

Better a small place in a safer neighborhood than a big lot in Westmont or Athens.

Plus bigger lot just means more work.

I bought a house in West Athens 3 years ago. I don't really feel in danger here. You have to be aware of your surroundings, but that goes for anywhere. I run in the neighborhood regularly. Neighbors are good people. More people are out there being outdoorsy since more middle class homeowners are moving in. Definitely getting more diverse here. Westmont is more sketchy, it has it's good streets and bad streets.
