Easily over an hour each way.

Some city officials palms must've been seriously greased to get approval for a 3-day music festival at the Rose Bowl.

It's one thing that they have concerts once in a blue moon and about 7 football games per year, the latter of which do not always happen at night when people are trying to sleep.

Unless they get a bunch of soft, folk acts that typically attract a more chill and well-behaved crowd, this could become a real nightmare beyond logistics.

In general, it is sad how many music festivals there are now. The promoters and sponsors really make the money now trying to put on all these festivals and then telling bands they can't perform at other local venues around the same time because of non-compete clauses.

Officials from the Rose Bowl Operating Company and AEG have pitched the festival as a family-friendly and multi-generational event with space for bookstores, art and plays alongside big-named musical acts at four main stages. They’re picturing children and their parents, not necessarily the crowds they get in Indio.

“This is not Coachella, we are not coming here in anyway to try to sell you on what we do in the desert,” said Nic Adler, a festival producer for AEG. “We think there is a niche ... That is what is going to make this successful.

The event may have been pitched as such to win approval but may not necessarily mean that is what ultimately what happens.

Nevertheless, hopefully it is a more family-friendly, smooth running event.

Unless we can see the contract one can only believe what is reported.

If it is a big problem I'm sure future ones will be cancelled.
