The intersection of Sunset and La Cienega, however, has been a downer for about a decade. Buildings on the south side of Sunset were shuttered to make way for what is now called Sunset La Cienega. For years, it was known as the "Sunset Millennium," and the development was approved by the city in 1999. But construction was postponed in part because of objections from neighbors, opposition lawsuits and, more recently, a weak real estate market.

Wow...about 17 years this project was approved..and it's just now getting built! Amazing!

Having buildings and businesses closed down for so long can't be good for the economy..

These mixed use buildings are all the rage. The builders CANNOT keep up with demand. We aren't building fast enough or the amount of people moving here. I don't know where most of you live but construction is insane right now. They can't build fast enough

Yeah there definitely is a lot more building. I guess it's more noticeable because things came to a halt in L.A (and other cities im sure) during the 'housing crash".

And it's not just in trendy or hot areas like WeHo that there is building. Lot's of building in Glendale and parts of the valley like Van Nuys, Canoga Park,etc.

There is no doubt that L.A's housing stock is outdated and there are plenty of people that are willing to pay a premium to live in new construction over old.

It's funny I was in West Hollywood the other day and there are all these older looking buildings that have a sign saying "Ultra Luxurious Units!" ... They obviously know that people living in that area want or expect luxury.

Have you looked at the prices in Studio City, Sherman Oaks or some other parts of the valley recently?

Studio City, Encino, and Sherman Oaks are de facto westside

Still the valley though..and lot's of rich celebs and other wealthy people live in Calabasas area on the other side of the valley too.
