Notice the word affordable in quotes because relative to other parts of the country, nothing in Los Angeles is really affordable lol. But that's ok because I am moving from Queens, New York (one of the five boroughs of NYC), so I am no stranger to a lack of affordability.

I am looking to move to Los Angeles due to potential business opportunities there. My take-home income is around 100k after taxes. I could really use some suggestions as to what zips/neighborhoods to start looking for middle-class homes, safe communities. From my salary you can guess I'd probably look for a home in 550-650k range. And for my parents who I hope to make the move with me, any nice condo or town home around 350k would be acceptable. Anything cheaper that doesn't sacrifice too much quality of home living is always welcomed though

I work from home and my parents are retired so commute is not an issue - I am open to all suggestions within the LA County area.

I am really trying to find a nice suburban feel. Environment is important, especially because I want my parents to be comfortable where they are living. I want them to be able to walk to the stores or wherever else in a fairly clean, comfortable atmosphere. I heard some neighborhoods in Los Angeles will be nice for a couple blocks, then turn into crap a couple blocks down. I get that - NY has similar sudden shifts in quality of the neighborhood within a few blocks radius. But overall, I am looking for a nice, clean, safe suburban feel.

Please don't let this **** anyone off, but I also would like some white people to live in the area I choose to live. I don't mind other ethnicities, and it doesn't have to be white majority or anything, but let's face it - it's nice to see some of your own kind around. Sorry to be blunt, I just want to be clear about what it is I am looking for.

I appreciate your personal experiences you share. I look forward to hearing what everyone has to say

You must be dreaming if you're expecting people not to take offense to that statement...

Having said that, you clearly belong in OC, not LA.

Thank you for these suggestions! Some of these areas are really nice neighborhoods to consider!

Could you guys tell me about Whittier? It looks like it has some nice areas, and isnt too far from the city.
