In LA 8' on the rear and the sides up to the front of the home. Forward of the home is 4' to 6' depending.
For wood you don't need a permit. For masonry a permit is required.

Beckbacca: what did you find out?

LuvSouthOC: your position is a bit extreme. Do you really believe the tiny house movement will result in slums? I'm genuinely curious, as we are considering a tiny house while my husband completes his postdoc.
