it really depends. It also depends on how suburban you want your experience to be. ATL is cheaper than L.A. for sure though. Overall ATL is more dangerous than L.A. but safety all depends on the individual as well.

More dangerous than LA? That's pretty scary considering Compton, South Central, Inglewood, Baldwin Hills, etc.

check the stats...of course there are safe neighborhoods too.

Edit: I have family in South Dekalb which is pretty nice. Way too suburban for my taste but I'm sure there are some places inside the perimeter that are pretty nice. The only thing negative I have really to say about ATL is that it is the epitome of average except the nightlife. Nice place though and I could live there again If I had too.

The north side of Atlanta and northern suburban areas are pretty safe and nice. Avoid the south, east, and west.

South Dekalb? South Dekalb was ok years ago, but you may get robbed at the gas station these days. Watch you back in that area, especially at night.
