Clearly. Each one of Starbucks's customers is dumb for not knowing they can get the same cuppajoe at the 7-11 next door.

Yeah, but you can't sit down and enjoy it at a 7-11 and get free wi-fi

Another plus to Starbucks is the ability to get free refills

How do the free refills on brewed or iced coffee or tea work?

Pacoima is not gentrifying... its called Gentefication. it is similar to whats happening in boyle heights. even then, Pacoima wont be a destination. its too far flung with few attractions.

Nice to hear about businesses like this opening up in unexpected neighborhoods. Definitely a positive.

Now they just need a yoga studio , vintage vinyl record shop and they'll be on their way to hipsterdom, lol
Pacoima did have a craft beer brewery, but unfortunately it closed down. Sounds like problems with neighborhood gangbangers were the reason

There is also a pizza place in Pacoima that seems like the type of place that you would expect in a hipster or more upscale part of town

Hopefully more like this opens up.
I say great!

Dude, be glad a national chain wants to do business in your community. I'm not knocking the 91342, you understand, but you seem to be carrying a chip on your shoulder about almost everything where you engage in the conversation.

Starbucks is good for hanging out. I'm not a coffee drinker but drink the teas and eat the desserts from time to time.

You mean it's becoming more of a destination for la gente (that is, Spanish speaking Latinos) from elsewhere?

As for its being too far flung, the 5 fwy (first main north-south highway down the west coast of the United States) passes right through it. Too far flung for whom?

Gentefication is a pretty new term. In regards to Boyle Heights there are some new businesses that have opened with latino owners, but there are some other ones also that have opened and plan to open which are not.
In Los Angeles there are many areas that were written off by many , but now are desirable. Echo Park, Highland Park and Downtown L.A are a few of them.
For sure Pacoima has a long way to go, but I wouldn't write off any neighborhood in L.A totally.

Also as far as being out of the way. Burbank is less than 20 minutes away and is known as a pretty big job center. Of course there would be other places too. L.A is so spread out that there isn't really one central perfect location.

Sure people aren't likely going to buy in Pacoima if they can afford a place in West L.A, Studio City or Sherman Oaks or...but those areas are becoming more and more out of reach as prices rise.

Something like this would be nice if it was actually implemented , article is from 2014.

Pacoima Looking For a Walkable Culver-City-Style Renaissance - Curbed LA
The little bit of exposure I have had to Pacoima showed me a semi-industrial/semi-rural area where there were properties large enough for stables and horses yet across the way were businesses whose gates were decked out in barbed wire.
