You're correct, although there are some who consider La Canada in the Verdugo region, depending on what one reads.

Incorporated cities, districts of Los Angeles, districts of Glendale, and unincorporated census-designated places in the Crescenta Valley include:

City of La Cañada Flintridge
Crescenta Highlands (also known as "Glendale Annex"): City of Glendale
La Crescenta-Montrose: unincorporated LA county & City of Glendale
Montrose: City of Glendale
Sunland: City of Los Angeles
Tujunga: City of Los Angeles
Verdugo City: City of Glendale

You made reference to the area in question was determined by the census.

City, county, state and country boundaries are all political boundary lines (poli sci 101). They divide land areas into a political division, example; a constituent of one city is not allowed to vote in another election due to the boundary. These boundaries predated the census if the city in question was formed prior to the first census in 1790. LA was founded in 1781 so predates the first census. So this means the census does no form political based lines but makes use of politically defined areas for the purpose of identifying a location . Now, a valley is not part of a political division, it is geographically based division. The area in question does contain political defined areas (cities) but the cities do not define the boundaries of a valley, hills/mts do. So the easy way to separate the two types is, a political division is man made and a geographical division is nature made.
I think what we are discussing here seems to be a difference between one map and another or one list which may be technically correct but in reality as most of us see it, some of these cities are not part of SGV.

Pretty much agree, but this is the first time I've ever heard of "Verdugo City". Never knew such a thing existed...

going way back: I am thinking Verdugo City might be what was referred to as Verdugo Hills.

Verdugo City is part of Glendale, south of the 210 and west of the 2 freeway. Looks like Verdugo Hills is not a city....there's Verdugo Hills High School in Tujunga, part of LAUSD.

You wonder about some of these cities. I had never heard of Bradbury until about 20 years ago. I just thought it was in Duarte (yet its city site states that it was founded in 1821).

Ok, yes, I know there is a Verdugo Highschool. They were in our division. But again, as I said, we are going way back. And I did know Verdugo Hills was not a city at the time, just thought maybe if became incorporated

As for Bradbury, I only know about it as I sold real estate in Ar for years and we often got listings from the city. It is, of course very small but very pricey. I am guessing the prices had a lot to do with Arcadia realtors getting the listings. Duarte was considered the pits pretty much and Monrovia wasn't too much better. The one thing I do know: Monrovia has come up in the region.

The Verdugos is sometimes referred to as Glendale, Pasadena, and the entire Crescenta Valley. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verdugos I've seen this on several occasions altogether it has almost half a million people.
