Based on where my kids and I will be living, kids will be assigned to the poor performing schools of San Pedro. Are there any good public schools in San Pedro? Does anyone have good recommendations for alternative schools that isn't private schools. Alternatives such as school of choice, home schooling and magnet schools. How does magnet schools work and how does one get their kids in it?

Not sure what grade your kids are. But if middle school then I'd suggest looking into Dodson MS Magnet. You will need to contact their Magnet office directly for application process. Typically there is a limited # of students they accept into the magnet program. If high school, Narbonne also has a magnet program, where a lot of Dodson graduates go to. They have an online application here. Unfortunately, they are still both LAUSD.
