In announcing a new program which would abscond with $ 9 Million of our CalTrans tax money to hire paroled felons to pick up trash, Garcetti actually said that we owed the felons a "debt of gratitude" for serving their prison sentence and should "thank them for their service". WTF ????? No wonder Los Angeles is going to hell. And people wonder why Trump is so popular.

I too heard Garcetti's drivel on John and Ken this afternoon. Garcetti is madder than a hatter. Even Tony "Gang-Tats" Villar never said anything so outrageous.

Whoa ... What?
I knew he was soft on crime but this is taking it too far .
I think there would be more outrage if people in LA weren't so apathetic and self centered.
I agree that Tony V was a bad mayor but Garcetti takes the prize .

This is a good idea. Someone has to clean the streets anyway.

My issue was not as much with the trash pickup jobs as it was with the notion that we should thank criminals for serving their sentence and that we owe them a "debt of gratitude.

He's straight lost his mind.

Oh well there goes his shot at the Governors office. Reappointing a police chief who believes cops ought to have a job for life even if that is desk duty for 25+ years, causing fewer cops to be deployed on patrol, resulting in drastic crime increases, combined with a sound bite like that. That doesn't fly even in a state as left wing as CA.

Or it could have been the rise in homelessness, which has gotten so bad it's forced California to take it more seriously.

Keep in mind the national movements against police brutality effect what officers can do as well.

Yeah but why not have them do it WHILE incarcerated. The hours worked will compensate the taxpayers for their costs. They get a small amounts in credit for hours worked so they can buy necessities. Cal trans pays their wages straight to the corrections. Corrections gets a percentage and the rest should go to whomever they victimized
