Yes, that's obviously the answer. Us sitting in LA want a beach we can go a few miles or head on down to San Diego and be there in 3 hours or so. Then hang out and do the 3 hour trek back. This is the LA forum.

I heard Galveston TX is an up & coming beach city. It's the Santa Monica of Houston.

Yikes. And I thought coming home from LA beaches with tar on my feet was bad.

Kiss the sands of these beaches everytime you go. And be thankful you ain't in Galveston. All I got to say. The only reason we ever went was because it was the closest ocean beach to Dallas.

RAT beach, (Redondo At Torrance) snugged right up against the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Walk south until you are right under the cliff. You don't feel like you are that close to 10 million people any more. Lovely.

That is until the scuba diving classes start their surf entry training there. But yes, very nice spot!

'most popular' isn't the same answer as 'not too crowded/parking problems'. I have been to every beach from Zuma to Imperial Beach (touching Tijuana down in San Diego) and I can say *every* beach offers it's own specific vibe/clientele/tidepool/surf/skate/sunbathe experience.

For a family of four tourists from Ohio, who want to park easy/cheap, see a decent variety of people - but don't want to expose your kids to a drum circle full of hippies smoking dope - avoid Venice and stick to Redondo.
