When you drive in LA it's not if you get in car accident it's when...

I also agree road rage is very real thing here I feel it myself sometimes but never act out. LA people have a lot of anger look at some of the posts on this LA forum compared to say Phoenix or even Orange county..

I also agree with LA being a young town. Most people retire and move away or burn out or can't make it here. Sometimes I see old people walk around LA and they look like zombies like LA has sucked out there soul or something.

Also parking is a whole other nightmare. You can't park in many areas without paying either the meter or a valet. You pay so much in rent and gas and then have to pay to park your car. I seriously don't know how people survive economically there. I live in OC and I'd never ever live in LA.

Very good description....and the city has no soul ......I worry everyday that my child has to drive the freeways here...hoping eventually she will move back to the east coast....with me, when she gets fed up enough.....

For someone who apparently hates Los Angeles, you sure do spend a lot of time talking about it.

Such anger in this thread. My guess is those who made bad decisions before, during, and while living here are the ones who hate it most. Blame everything but yourself.

I'm French and lived most of my life in Paris. Currently living in LA (Wilshire/St Vincente area) since 1 year, here are my pros/cons :

Cons :
- Because it is so widespread, it's difficult for the city to make a efficient public transp. system
- So, you need to take the car for most things
- Because of that, most parts of the city feel empty (very few people walking on the streets)
- The traffic during commute hours is stupid (much worse than in Paris, which I would not have believe)

Pros :
- The weather, the palms, the beaches, the mountains, the feeling of being outside next to nature, and not trapped in a city.
- Parts of the city are amazingly beautiful, never saw that in any other major cities.
- So many good and unexpensive restaurants
- A lot of stuff to do around (for grown ups and/or childrens)
- People are "cool", not stressed out, they wont honk at you for anything, they give you right of way at stops signs, I love it, please keep it that way.

I overall enjoy it, and think I have a better quality of life here than anywhere I've lived before.

I am a newbie to LA. I moved to an area that takes me 10 mins by train to get to work. I live in a area that most everything we need is within walking distance. I enjoy the extra exercise . So I tried to minimize driving as much as I could to take the bad traffic out of the mix. I would rather live in a smaller house then spend my life in traffic. As others said there is a lot to love about it. No place is perfect. I grew up in a big city so I do enjoy all there things there is to do here and the city vibe.

Happiness is a state of mind...........

Can you explain what you mean by this? I assume you mean that places like the Griffith Observatory are beautiful...since you are from Paris you can't be referring to the city itself (as in architecture, strip malls, etc.)?

I agree with you about LA drivers being pretty chill for big city drivers.

It was hard to get used to this city when I moved here back in 2013 but I've adjusted, eventually made tons of friends, built my career, and learned to love my life here.

The city is what you make of it - and I love native Angelinos! I think they're super friendly and totally are NOT like the stereotype (though the transplants kinda are....)
