If a 1/2 commute is normal then wouldn't it be the same as living within 2.5 miles (walking) of your workplace?

A studio at Oakwood in Toluca Hills is way, way more expensive than $1000. I was looking into living in one in 2005 and it was about $12-1300/month, even back then!

If you want to stay in the N. Hollywood area, you should check out Valley Village. The rents are a lot cheaper than in Studio City and Sherman Oaks, and the area seems pretty safe. Do a search for "Valley Village" on craigslist.org
