Does anyone have any ideas that I can use for an October birthday? I'm on a tight budget, one that I do not yet have $ amount, and I'm hoping some ideas are out there. I really need to make this special and with limited funds. We are in the Altadena/ Pasadena area. Thank you for any ideas.

Dave and busters. They have one in Arcadia, Hollywood and West LA. The younger guests can play games, arcades, etc. While the adults can enjoy drinks at the bar, play pool, etc.

TV show taping. If she has a favorite show that has a live audience, that might be cool. Takes a while, though. Or try one of those daytime talk shows like Ellen.

I recommend timeout.com eventbrite.com for Events, and Pinterest for party Decor

Go to a park (Loma Alta, Charles White, or Farnsworth). Bring a birthday cake.

Cost = $20.

Yeah, a simple little family/friend time get-together is fine. Then she can go out and find something with her age group. I dunno her sensibilities but The Smell downtown is good for cheap all-ages concerts, like $5. It's a DIY artist and community space, a place she can start to spread her wings as an involved adult in a creative milieu.

UNFORTUNATELY The Smell is threatened. The landlord has decided to raze the building. This is a crying shame. My young adult years were in the high-flying DIY '80s, and this is the only place that seems like old times.

I agree - friends and a cake at a local park or at home.

Isn't 18 a little old for a birthday party...?

Or to put it another way, at that age you have zero interest in being at a party with your parents XD
