You can actually get some amazing panoramic shots of the city from The Grove parking structure, about level 6 and up. I'm serious.

Try the Griffith Park Observatory. You can see the Hollywood sign (not a classic view, but a view), and you get an unparalelled panorama of the city.

I caught a clip of the news the other night on KCAL and they were talking about the Hollywood sign moving, did anybody else hear that?

i didnt hear that, but i saw that they are thinking of selling the land above (maybe next to?) the hollywood sign for around $20 million. but i dont think that will happen, the hollywood sign is too important to the city for tourism.

I took some really amazing pictures at Hollywood Forever Cemetery with the hollywood sign in the background. It's gorgeous there, has really interesting memorials (everything from classic grecian style to rockets), and nice big palm trees to frame the sign in the background.
If nothing else, it's a lot of fun checking out all the silent film stars etc. that are there.

Lake Hollywood. Also not the "classic view" but it's very close and you'll see few people...maybe Joan Van Ark taking her daily run.

Yup....North Beachwood and the area around there. On a clear day, it's an incredible shot.
