If you drive north of LA from like 30 mintues to an hour you will be in the suburbs of LA. Better known as the valley. Gated communitites, a few main schools, stuff like that.

yes, they do. west hollywood is one such city, as is compton, since it disbanded its corrupt police force several years ago. beverly hills, santa monica and culver city have their own municipal police departments.

Yes. You can't very well be "unincorporated" if you're a part of the City of Los Angeles, now can you? LAPD is for the city and the LASD is everything else in the county that isn't an incorporated city with its own police department.

Hmmm... I somehow don't remember ever seeing a BHPD car anywhere when I lived in Los Angeles. Hell, I even remember being pulled over by an LAPD patrol car after trying to beat a light (and losing).

Then again those were difficult times in my life.

Look for cities that have their own unified school districts! I don't think you want to be part of LAUSD it is to big and a mess - the valley has been fighting to separate from LAUSD for years. Where will your officed be located. That could weigh in heavily as to where you settle.

Normally, unincorporated cities have contracts with the Sheriff's department such as Altadena.

Some say Los Angeles is a suburb in search of a city. It may be easier to think
of it as different sections of one huge suburb.
