Sounds pretty threatening ... What happens if they don't leave ? Will they get murdered ?
It would be really nice to see people in positions of power like the Mayor say something about this craziness before it gets way out of hand .
We are seeing a lot of hate crimes happening across the country now , would be a shame to see them happen in LA.
You must be ignorant. Stop living your life in the suburban valley. Get enriched in BH and tell me about the murals. There is no opposition to galleries since there are murals.

See above for lack of logic and reason and a desperate wanting to believe that the person who said they don't want galleries didn't mean that.

Sorry to interrupt your little strawman but I pointed out the ubiquity of murals in response to your incorrect assertion that art is perceived as white implying Boyle Heights isn't an artistic community. Never did I say that there was no opposition to galleries since there are murals and claiming I did so just makes you look silly

Boyle Heights' historic and majority Hispanic population has been very successful in segregating its community from the rest of LA gentrification. It's not really the "art" that they are against, more so the affect that the high art community has on property values and desirability, leading to being priced out, as the majority are still renters, not homeowners.

They should know that in the long run, it's a losing battle as the rest of LA is gentrifying rapidly. The gangs aren't as big of an issue to the residents because they would rather keep their community and culture intact, and because most are low income, dealing with visual blight and gangs is just par for the course I guess.

Mocking the concept that there was a lack of cultural density was pretty big at the event if I recall.
NY Times is clueless about LA though, so not surprising . Also it was the article writer that said la lacked " cultural density " whatever that means ..
It doesn't look like the artists said that

They aren't going to move they signed leases or bought property .
Looks like they might have to invest in private security though since this group has it out for them

At least art gallery owners aren't going around shooting 10 year old girls in the head ...

Like I said it has more to do with that article. And they overreacted on private security before that fiasco, saying they spent a fortune thinking they're on some lawless new frontier or something. And I doubt these folks present a big danger.

Among the gallerists present at the meeting was Ethan Swan, manager of 356 Mission, who said, “I’m here to listen. I feel very affected by what I’ve heard tonight. But I don't know what the next step is for me or for the gallery.” Another dealer who attended the meeting and wished to remain unidentified said, “I’ve worked in the art world for twenty-five years. I’ve never seen anything like this. Ever. Art galleries are usually a welcome resource.”

They want to kick all art galleries out of the area based on an article ?
Seems a pretty ignorant way to think .

Also how can you guarantee these folks aren't a danger ?
It's bizarre because low income areas are always saying how people don't want to do business in their area and then they are trying to do business and these people in the community are upset .
Also this isn't the first time that Boyle Heights residents have reacted negatively to art or businesses in their area .
Remember the protest against Opera in the park , where protestors literally said the park was for brown people not white people ??

Well some do, when I was at Ambularte it didn't seem like a big theme, it looks like that's what some of these vocal people quoted were saying in the papers but nobody that I talked to mentioned it. *shrugs*

I can't guarantee that, but it's been several months since them and I haven't heard of them doing anything serious to the gallery.

Lots of locally based entrepreneurship in Boyle Heights, been that way as long as I can remember.

I thought that was pretty silly.

Ewww.

And you want to abolish all Chinatowns? What's wrong with a few ethnic enclaves?
