So we are renting a very nice 2 bedroom Condo in Sherman Oaks. It's really nice, large, updated, etc. Paying $2150 (Started at $1900). Huge balcony, 2 parking spots, very nice building, great area.

I might be starting to work in Downtown and my wife is also tired of standing in traffic to Santa Monica. We are starting to consider possibly moving closer. I am thinking either West Hollywood or the surrounding areas or K-Town or surrounding areas. Not looking for anything specials. Biggest thing I am looking for is safety. My wife walks the dog late at night and I want her to be safe while she is doing so.
What can I possibly afford at $1800-$2300? I haven't looked in a while, but I just looked on CL and WSR and my eyes almost popped out. Studios renting at $2500. WTF is that? I want to understand what type of people people $2500+ for a 350SQF studio. But back to my situation, what kind of an apartment can I rent in that range and in a more or less safe area?

I think it's an hour to downtown from Sherman Oaks and back. I wouldn't mind 45 min, but an hour is too much

It sucks because everything is so close without traffic. It's literally 15 min to the office without traffic, which is like at 3 in the morning = )

Depending on where in DTLA, maybe not move, and take the train from Van Nuys or North Hollywood.
