Most sharks will not attack people, but would you nevertheless swim in shark infested waters?

L.A. beachgoers do it every day.

You seem to have missed the point of my comment entirely. There is no avoiding homeless people unless you want to stay in your own little bubble and, while I agree they aren't a pleasant sight for the rest of us, they don't actively bother anyone most of the time.

I avoid filthy homeless, there are few in Sylmar and the police seem to move them along.

Mainly because Santa Monica still has an actual police department - unlike L.A.

LAPD has surrendered to the homeless. They have free reign anywhere that's LAPD turf.

Very condescending.

The OP claims to be from Brazil. Yet they seem so shocked about poverty? Skid Row downtown is upper middle class compared to most of Brazil.

I think we trump SM when it comes to homeless defecation per block.
Palms also trumps SM for homeless defecation per block. Even Mar Vista does despite the lack of tourist destinations

Yeah it's a shame , but I think you have to look beyond the officers to the ones giving them orders .
If LAPD officers were able to fully enforce laws things would be a lot different .
It's gotten out of hand.
Yes the homeless are people and human , but there need to be some limits .
I don't care if someone is homeless or a billionaire in an Armani suit if they are behaving certain ways it shouldn't be tolerated .

OP, just so that you know, you probably drove thru the areas of SM where homeless congretate. They are in touristy areas by Palisades Park (the areas South of Wilshire) and 3rd St Prom. The residential areas north of Wilshire are virtually homeless free. North of Montana, which is the most expensive area in the Westside, has ZERO homeless, and yes, people do buy homes there because of the lovely neighborhoods with beautiful homes, excellent schools and many amenities. Don't judge an entire city from one "drive" you took on one random day. I lived there for 7 years and I never had a problem with homeless on my street. It's a great place to live.

Venice is way worse.
