Default Any way to get to Santa Monica from Union Station via public transit

My husband will be commuting part time from Oceanside and I was thinking that rather than drive or fly he could consider taking the train.

I know about the Big Blue Bus 10 Express. Is there a faster way to get to Santa Monica (actually Playa Vista) via public transit? Or, does anyone know another way to get to PV from SD County via public transit that I haven't considered?

Thanks!

From Santa Monica to Downtown LA, no. That's going to be your best bet. Why are you commuting from San Diego to L.A.? That's two hours each way. Without traffic.

Yeah, I know. His job will require him to spend half of his time in Carlsbad and half in Santa Monica. Our other option is to stay here in San Francisco and have him commute full time. He's going to be traveling like crazy no matter what so I just prefer to move to Carlsbad.

Color me shocked. Someone actually has an intelligent reason for a long commute. Have you checked Amtrak? I'm thinking Amtrak to L.A.,then the Blue Bus 10 might work. Even if it's still two hours he can catch a coupple of zzz instead of fighting traffic.

Your post just made me laugh out loud. It's rare that happens when I'm in the middle of planning yet another move, so thank you!!

I think he'll just have to try flying, driving, and taking the train (and then maybe a cab from the train station- he's not a big public transit guy, so I don't know if I could talk him into taking the bus, especially on the company's dime) and see which works out best for him.

Default Here's the quickest way to do it.

Take the Metro subway from Union Station - the "purple line" (that's the one that ends on Western and Wilshire) - then walk up to the surface and board the 920 (not the 720). The 920 only makes about half a dozen stops between Western Ave and the Beach. The 920 only runs on week days.
