I’m looking to move in LA this summer. I am a RN from Atlanta GA
Is it hard getting a nurse job at UCLA or some of the other hospitals. Do they want me to have my California nursing license before looking at my application

Thanks for the info. Are there Good parts that truly weigh out the bad parts. I have heard comments of skid row and that is enough more than said. I hope to buy a home and see they are very mid affordable possibly which the distance is greater than 30 miles from LA. Is this the trend now for LA

I don’t know about licensing but I’m confused why you are asking the question in this manner. It appears you don’t actually understand what the LA metro area is like. First off there is City of Los Angeles, which stretches from Communities like San Pedro all the way up to Chatsworth and contains Hollywood, K Town, Venice, SF Valley, Downtown, Boyle Heights, West LA, Watts, and about 100 other neighborhoods. Then there is LA County which is flat out huge. And the entire metro area including IE and OC is a sprawling non stop city that’s 100 miles in each direction without much of a break in between various cities and suburbs. Within that area are literally thousands of medical facilities.

If you mean UCLA Harbor hospital, some of the more affordable SFR are near there in Harbor City, Carson, and Long Beach. Note that these areas may not be particularly safe and may not have very good schools. In the areas near here with good schools, you won’t be able to afford sfr on a nurses salary and you’ll be hard pressed to afford a townhome or condo unless you have other financial resources.

If you mean UCLA campus, that is in Westwood and one of the most expensive areas of the country. Also understand that even a 10 mile commute to there is more than 30 minutes most times of the day and not only will you be unable to afford to purchase anything, you’ll also be limited in what you can rent.

Yes and yes. The Homeless issue is all over, but worst by far in City of Los Angeles.

We rent in a nice area and will continue to do so until I retire.

Not willing to live in a marginal area, and not willing to exceed an hour commute. You will have to decide what is best for you. What is best for us is to rent and save. Savings will pay for a house cash out of state for me, and a nice retirement plus moving to a state with no income tax works well for us. That’s not everyone’s choice though and if I was starting out right now, I wouldn’t be doing it in So Cal.
