Default Culver City apartments

Hi all, I just graduated college in the South and am moving to L.A. for a job at Sony which is in Culver City, and I happened to come across an apartment complex known as the Meadows in Culver City, next to the Fox Hills mall. How is that area when it comes to safety? I am a 24 year old black woman and i was wondering, is the area diverse with a large black population? Thanks.

If you are looking for your folks, Culver City is good. It's safe and you are close to the Black "mecca" of L.A. BTW, the Meadows will be awesome. There are a lot of Black people around Fox Hills mall. If you go east on Jefferson (stay to the right, it forks) you pass Baldwin Hills (another concentration of us) at this point you will be on Rodeo. If you keep going and turn right on Martin Luther King (immediately after La Brea), you will find Leimert Park (another concentration of us) where a lot of cultural events take place. Angeles Heights is right there, too. But be careful because "the Jungle" butts right up the Crenshaw mall as well. Don't worry, you'll know it when you see it, just keep driving.

You can also come down Slauson, but you'll run to into the poorer neighborhoods doing that. If you do, just turn left on Crenshaw, Leimert Park is only a few blocks away.

We lived in the complex across the street from the Meadows for six years. I'd definitely say it is the population you are looking for. We never had any problems with safety. Most complexes in the area have effective security and Culver City Police are very responsive. I'm not sure if it's the greatest place for a young single person straight out of college, as it seems like there are a lot of families in the area. Maybe someone else can comment on the social opportunities close to the area.
