I'm speaking on renting an apartment in order to get familiar with the area before buying a home there obviously. The rental laws ARE NOT followed due to several loop holes. Its funny how a "NY" writer dude can know that all rules are followed in Orange County,CA and thinks that blacks can rent in any city and area of the county that they want. You need to get in touch with reality.

Who said that Crack was caused by white people? If your attempting to quote my previous message then you need to learn to read correctly.

This forum is about Los Angeles County, and I've rented in Los Angeles county before.

Orange County, I have no interest in and I am not posting on that forum.

And if you were the victim of racial discrimination, this forum is not a place for that. You go to a lawyer who specializes in that field.

Donald Sterling was discriminating in his buildings a little over a decade ago. I'm sure it still happens. Good luck trying to rent in south LA at a building with signs in Spanish only if you are black.

I think that everyone has there preconceptions and prejudices. As thinking people we have to overcome them. My personal story back in the day was I had trouble renting in the area around the Long Beach traffic circle and other parts of Long Beach. My wife and I went to several apartment complexes where we were told that they were full and that the waiting list was months long. We were even told this at a place with signs and balloons out and they were passing out cookies advertising apartments for rent. Yet a waiting list over six months long.

We just happened to be at the rental office of where we eventually moved when a tenant came in and mentioned that she was moving out to a place down the street. She said that she walked in and they had apartments available. The same place that the day before told us the waiting list was long (not the ballooon place). I'm sure that this was all discriminatory but it still puzzled me. Years later all I could figure out is that all of these places sized us up and assumed that we were there for the low income apartments which did have long waiting lists. They never asked if we wanted market rate, which we did. Maybe that was it. Maybe something else, but discriminatory either way.
