Question possible move to california

My husband and I are looking to possibly move our family to California. We are looking to be stationed at Edwards AFB. What are good areas to live in? I have heard horrible things about Lancaster and Palmdale. I have two young children and one goes to school so the last thing I want is to live in a place where I am afraid for them to go outside. So if anyone knows where alot of the military famlies live off base or any good place to buy a house that would be in a good town/community to raise kids in let me know.

I've heard good things about the newer developments in Valencia and Santa Clarita, which are nearby.

Valencia and Santa Clarita are a Long way from Edwards AFB and the 14 Fwy is a nightmare. Their have been allot of post on this you may want to put Edwards in search. Their is a lot of info.
Have you looked into housing on base? I am sure living on base is by far more safe than in town. And you are right about Palmdale/Lancaster It's horrible. You can look at Rosamond it's right off base and not a bad place And not in Los Angeles county like Palmdale/Lancaster

It's got to be a good 70 miles from Valencia and Santa Clarita to the base. I know from Acton it's a little over 50.

The Gov. seems to like them in nice towns. I can think of towns that were nice before the projects showed up.
