Where should I live if I will work in Northridge? (apartment complex, rent)

I'm moving to California in the fall and will be working in Northridge. Looking for the best place to live in the SFV. I'm a single professional in my early 30's and hoping to live somewhere where I could walk to restaurants or stores. Hoping to have a commute that's 30 min or less. I could afford up to $1500/mo in rent and have a small dog. Any ideas?

i live in studio city

when i used to take classes up at northridge, it only took about 30 mins to get up there

you are going against traffic in the mornings

405N is a cakewalk at 8am

sheman oaks, studio city, toluca lake sounds like everything you are looking for.......restaurants, shopping, boutiques, coffee shops, bookstores, etc.

Consider living closer to Northridge. Yes, those towns above may be a little more walkable (and less suburban than Northridge) but you'd be driving 30 minutes one way every day to be able to walk to a store. How often is a single person going to walk to a restaurant in a week anyway? If you lived near Northridge you'd be home in ten minutes and have more time left over for those errands. (You could also probably find apartments in Northridge within walking distance to stores...maybe around Reseda and Parthenia.) But, those towns mentioned above are also more single friendly whereas Northridge is more family oriented (except for the immediate vicinity of CSUN). It all depends on how much driving you want to do. You want to drive 30 minutes one way a day or ten minutes one way a day? I would guess that Northridge might be a little cheaper in rent too. Not sure what $1500 will get you in Studio City, probably less than what is in Northridge. You can always cruise out there for fun on weekends and stuff.

Porter Ranch is a nice place to live but (and I'll admit I haven't driven around PR since the late 1970s and 1980s) 1) I don't think there are any apartments there (or very few) 2) I don't think there is very much within walking distance to anything retail or food, 2) I doubt there is anything there around $1500/month unless it is renting a room or splitting a home.

Find a roommate as you will have trouble finding an area that you would want to live where the rents are that low...

Charles your correct. Actually the only apartment complex I can think of, near the Walmart shooping center, is a senior complex.

I agree completely. Noirthridge is a nice, safe place to live, especially near Cal State Northridge.
