Okay, I have NEVER heard of this, so I wanted to take it to the internet.
I have lived in my apartment for almost three years. I am now on a month to month, and my landlord just sent me a notice of a small rent increase (no big deal). In addition, the notice informed me that I am due to pay an additional $50 on my security deposit, which I find quite strange. I paid $1000, and my new rent will be $750 starting April. Can anyone shed some light on this?? -Lauren |

I've run across it before only when someone paid "Last Month's Rent" and the rent went up...
Never come across a case where the "Security Deposit" as opposed to "Last Month's Rent" was increased. I'm interested in what others have to say. |

Call Legal Aid immediately! A landlord cannot ask for additional security deposit unless your circumstances have changed since you moved in, i.e., new water bed, large aquarium, acquired a pet or anything else that can cause damage. Changing out new appliances doesn't count.
