They immigrate here to live in a slightly better extreme poverty.

The problem lies with the upper class in Latin America.
There is mixed truth here. I would add to this statement, "the problem lies with the upper class in Latin America," that it's also Washington's meddling with the internal affairs of Latin American countries, i.e. El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala. There is a direct correlation between the immigration from those countries to the L.A. area and U.S. coercive influence on domestic policy in those same countries.

Well the valley is basically Mexico. The grafitti will come back within a week after you wash it off. Believe me I know this!

What is happening is that LA is turning into RICH and the latino workers!! that is the dichotomy that is being created.

Woodland Hills is the nicest part of the valley...and anything along Ventura Blvd...

but in the middle flatlands of the valley is where Mexico is :-))

The funny thing about LA is that not many buildings are over 2 stories tall so everything looks like another country!!
why do u say that Woodland Hills is the nicest part? I live there now in a nice gated secure complex where a neighbour reported a burglary few months ago... I see in Woodland Hills whatever I see in Van Nuys....

I guarantee you Woodland Hills (and Calabasas and much of West Hills and Porter Ranch, the Chatsworth rancho communities and most of the foothill communities in the West San Fernando Valley) are significantly more desirable and less dangerous than much of Van Nuys. Van Nuys isn't totally horrible or dangerous (I don't feel uncomfortable in VN or most of the Valley for that matter) but it is no Woodland Hills.

I agree with Charles on this one. Woodland Hills and Calabasas are the nicer quieter parts of the valley. With any large gated rental complex with hundreds of units you'll have your occasional burglary because when you think of the odds, there's bound to be some type of criminal activity. What really bothers me is that these complexes seem to have a problem with its tenants stealing shopping carts from markets and either bringing them into the complexes or leaving them on the street. There's a huge complex north of me off of Shoup and Oxnard that ALWAYs has shopping carts strewn about. I hate it. But overall, Woodland Hills is MUCH nicer than Van Nuys.

Charles I always love your posts. Thats pretty cool. The complex used to be a farm. There is one home I saw the other day for sale that is one of the last original "farm homes" that is still standing on Shoup. I think its actually Canoga Park address but the property is very nice. $900,000 on Shoup between Sherman Way and Vanowen.

There is a really old home (like 80+ years) on the SW corner of Victory and Shoup.

See it here. Click on Birds Eye View

It would be great if the valley looked like that today. I miss the many areas which were undeveloped until the 1980s and 1990s.

There was also much (and I mean much) less traffic, too.
