Anyone else think LA is going down the toilet? (Ontario: daycare, hotels)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Los Angeles is such a big place. I had thought at one time that this place is going to the dogs. A city is not about its politics. What makes a city are the people that live it it, the leaders within. There are many, many civic and private leaders in this city and county that are working hard every day to make changes that will affect this city positively. This city has so much to offer. If you reach out and look, you will be very surprised with what you will find.

well I know one. I have a few friends who came from just outside LA /other parts of california and they love it

st augustine florida I know it's not for everyone as it is a very conservative old fashioned city but those friends of mine are anyway so it would explain why they do like the place.

My good friend came with his parents as they were worried he might get caught up in gangs and now he's doing great. No gangs, no crime , very clean, everyone speaks English for those who want that, low taxes due to Govt, old fashioned in values, very rare today. schools are good

Of course it's not the place if you want diversity or get upset seeing guys going hunting, fishing, the old south or seeing the rebel flag .
It is only an hours drive away from georgia

Each to their own but I thought I would point out at least one nice city not plauged with the problems you guys mention.

lol, this thread makes me feel alot better about myself.

I live in the suburbs, a middle class area in Charlotte NC.
My house (2 storys, 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms, garage) set us back 130K, its in a gated community, and is near every amenity I could ever want.

I was watching on Youtube some of the violence going on in Compton recently, and it was disturbing. Than I looked at some real estate sites and they were selling houses there for 300-400K!!!!!

Here that gets you a HUGE house with a great front and backyard, a playground nearby, and your gated community has an outdoor heated Olympic size swimming pool, and your like 40 minutes away from "The Hood".
Houses in the hood here cost 40-70K
In LA they cost more than our mansions!!!
I am so happy I live here and not there, no offense.

I'm so happy to live in Socal, and can't wait to move back to LA. I would never live in Charlotte or any part of NC, no matter how cheap it is, no offense. Glad you're happy there though. And, thanks for sharing.

Yeah, and I bet if you went to North Dakota, you could get an even bigger house. Maybe size of the home is everything to you, but it isn't for a lot of people. And BTW, Compton is not what all of LA is like. Politically, it's not even a part of the city of Los Angeles.

Why do people keep bringing up Compton? It's not the cheapest place to live in L.A., far from it in fact. Long Beach 90813 has small houses from the 230's if you want to talk ghetto real estate. I've been here almost 40 years and I've never even been there.

I think parts of LA have deteriorated while other parts of the city have improved. The SFV was a nice place when I moved there 20 years ago. Now it's pretty bad. It's more crowded with low-income folks. They have to live somewhere, but can't afford to buy houses. More apartment buildings are being constructed to fill this need. I think this is occurring over much of LA. In 20 years, I think LA will be vertical like NY city, only bigger.

I don't think all of LA is going down the toilet. It will continue to attract all kind of people from illegal immigrants to rich business people. Poor folks live in poor areas. Middle-income folks live next to poor folks who live in apartment buildings in decent areas. Rich people live in super nice areas.

The city has been changing in a big way. Hate it or love it, it's still LA -- just a different LA.

People keep bringing up Compton because it is famous! West Coast gangster rappers, who are listened to by people all over the country, glorify Compton as a gangster's paradise. Compton has brand recognition, so to speak. People assume since they hear about how tough Compton is that it would have to contain cheap real estate as well.

We did get out of the pits of california going on two years now and that is the best thing we ever did..

You couldn't possibly be talking about a city that houses nearly 5 million, and a county that houses twice that, could you? Those must be some brave souls!
