I also echo every word of your thoughts LASingleMom. Great perspective and so true! When I was thinking about what I would take with me when I do eventually decide to leave here, those were my same thoughts!

So a lot of the whites that are left, at least the non gay ones, are there to either go to school (USC, UCLA, etc), get into showbiz or just party. The ones who went to school will leave, as will the partiers when they start to grow up The showbiz types will move to Beverly Hills, Laurel Canyon or Malibu once they make it.

So L.A. is a more and more a place to escape from, just like most large American cities, not spend all of your life in. And nobody has a plan to fix that state of affairs.
Yikes! And probably right!

Man, I'm living in Asia and LOVING the cities over here. I wish ONE city in the U.S. had ANYTHING to offer whatsoever. They are all kind of cesspools once post-party days are over. Sad really, as I absolutely hate suburban life. Too bad there weren't any American cities even remotely liveable for people once they start families and such, much like most of Europe and Asia.

Good post LASingleMom! Welcome to the forum! It appears I'm the first member to add to your reputation points. Enjoy!

Sadly, I have to agree with the sentiments of this thread in so far as the problems that exist here because of a severe imbalance in the demographics.

Would you apply this same analogy for the future to other counties in SoCal, such as Riverside and OC, and how do Ventura/Santa Barbara counties stand in regard to the same dire prediction.

Can AZ and NV avoid the same fate to this extent?

In a word, 'no.' the immigration in the southwest along with the high birth rates of these immigrants and their children have started a demographic shift that cannot be stopped at this point. unless white/black/asian people start having many more children, the southwest will continue to get more 'brown.' at this point, people are stuck with the choice of accepting these new demographics or leaving. However, the ability of latin immigrants to thrive in any culture or climate has proved itself in places like chicago and new york as well as many smaller towns in the south and the midwest. you really aren't immune from latin immigration anywhere in this country. imo, they are the future majority of this country.

States with warmer climates like California, Nevada, Arizona and parts of Texas attract people who do not wish to live in states with harsh cold winters and heavy snowfall. Specifically Hispanics and Asians.

Not familiar with San Francisco, I take it?

Then the streets, the repairs, the freeways (trash on the freeways). Then other parts of it are thriving.

I think I notice it more because of the streets, the potholes. The huge disparity between home prices/rents and schools. I wish the schools were thriving as much as the new developments.

I think the developments, new construction, etc has sprung up much faster than the infrastructure and the underlying strength of the community (test scores, etc).
Mainly because there are fewer and fewer kids around, so fewer people are directly affected by LAUSD?

As I said on the board back when I still lived in L.A., family flight on the westside is very real. It's not just in LAUSD areas, but seems to have even spread to Beverly Hills, Culver City, and to a lesser extent Santa Monica.
