Me again

So my apartment complex has fire Extinguishers in the common areas, not in individual apartments.
There are about 6/7 for the whole building.

Only 2 have tags and those were inspected years ago. The others have no tags.

1 do apartment fire extinguishers need visible inspection tags?
2 do they need to be checked regularly?

I have since found out my complex is under the RSO, though nothing was mentioned to me about that and the only thing posted is a letter that expired in 2002 about being RSO.

Thanks

Contact your local fire station. Since I don't know what city you are in, that's about all I can tell you. In general, only the common areas are required to have fire extinguishers. Individual apartments are not required to have one. It would be the occupant's responsibility to supply their own extinguisher. Extinguishers are required to be inspected every year and serviced every five years or after it's been used.

Ah, my old neighborhood!

If your apartment is near Valley & Eastern, contact Fire station 16 (213) 485-6216. If your apartment is north of there - Huntington Drive - contact Fire Station 47 (213) 485-6247. Voice your concerns.

I buy my own and have one in every room except bathroom. If there is a fire in the neighboring apartment you could prevent it from spreading to yours. I also keep one in the trunk of my car in case of a car fire in my car but also to help someone else if, god forbid, they are trapped in a burning car. Might buy a few minutes of time.

I have never rented an apartment that had a fire extinguisher in it in any city. Most buildings had one in the common areas (near an elevator, in the lobby, on a terrace).

There are certain items that I simply wouldn't expect to have included in a rental, and a fire extinguisher is one of them. Walmart has many in the $30-$50 range; I would just buy one myself.

They are supposed to be inspected, so the ones at your building should have up-to-date tags. They lose their charge after a couple years and need to be recharged (which usually costs around $15 each).
