It almost reads that you haven't performed a lot of research.

Your questions are relative. When you drove around Reseda, how did it feel to you? What vibe did you get? Where you comfortable with the people on the street (the people your kids will encounter for the next several years)? What are the kids like in your new neighborhood?

What other places did you check out? Did you check out anything in the Conejo Valley? Simi? Moorpark? West Hills? Chatsworth?

What schools are your kids going to attend? Are you happy with them?

Is someone responsible with the kids after school?

Reseda has changed a lot since I used to visit the Reseda Theater on Sherman Way and Reseda and bought boxes of Milk Duds at Sav-On there for seven cents. (You can see both in the 1963 photo below.)

You are absolutely right...The only thing you left out was a current picture of that intersection showing the graffiti on the side of the Supermercado...

There was a club on the NE corner one or two blocks east of Reseda Blvd.
I never attended any events there, but was in the area on a daily basis during the eighties. When the theatre fell on hard times, the management began showing older flicks, and the admissiion was reduced to 50 cents.

I think that the OP made a wise decision in selecting Reseda, because of its affordability, and also because of its central location. I know many families that have bought or rented in Reseda and were able to save for that macmansion farther west or north. Living within a gated community will provide her family - and the family vehicle - another layer of protection. In addition to West Hills and Woodland Hills, there are excellent private schools nearby in Tarzana and Encino.

Although she will soon learn that Winnetka and Saticoy are two good routes to use to avoid traffic, I have always believed that some of the worst drivers in the Valley could be found on Saticoy. Of course, if you use any street in the Valley long enough, you could probably arrive at a similar conclusion.

Thanks everyone. This forum really helps.
I know that I'll not be living in Reseda (or even California) for the rest of my life..... 3-5 years max.
Talking safe/unsafe places, a friend of mine, who used to live in a gated apartment complex in Woodland Hills (near Warner Park) reported a burglary a few months ago. I guess there is no perfect place!

I have lives in Reseda all my life. Yes, it has gone downhill, but it is still my home. I am near the Tampa/Roscoe/Saticoy area. There are still horses, and larger lots. There are smaller/regular homes on the east side of Tampa. It has been very peaceful, and nice living there, but I do not go out walking. I shop and hang out in Northridge. We could use some more residents who care for their homes, so I hope you move there! There is also a very active Reseda Neighbothood Council. Google it.

Hiya Trisha! I've lived about 2 miles east of you for the last 30 years, and in the Valley my whole life. It's nice in my neighborhood and much of the area is the same, 50's houses, quiet and peaceful, boring to some, nice to those who get their excitement elsewhere and like it like that (me).

See ya at the mall mall!

Lovehound, Too funny! I'ts nice to hear a positive response. I was afraid someone would argue with me! lol! I have had some tagging problems in the past, but grew some ivy on my wall. My only suggestion to ammas, would to make sure your windows and garage are ALWAYS secured. Never leave the garage open. When I lived in Granada Hills I learned the hard way. I do think GH is so much nicer, but problems are everywhere.

Hiya Trisha. I've had only one tagging incident in my neighborhood, spotted them, copied down their license plate, they saw me and scrammed, and I left a note on the house of the fence that was tagged giving them the details. Police contacted me by phone but I never heard the ultimate resolution except that the paint was cleaned up.

Oh I never leave my front door or garage open or unlocked, and even lock my back yard gate except the day my gardener visits. Some people advise to also lock the back door (my mother in Simi Valley) but I leave mine unlocked except at night or when absent. I need the shooting practice. (joke)

I haven't seen tagging to be much of a problem in my neighborhood.

Greg/Lovehound

I was born in Reseda! I spent the first three years of life in Canoga Park, and then my parents moved to Thousand Oaks and they have lived there ever since.

I did go to a few events at the Country Club when it was there.

There's a good pho restaurant on Reseda Boulevard, and when I'm in the Valley, I always stop at Buba's Beauty Supply, too - near Reseda and Sherman Way.

I am looking to buy south of Roscoe, which is Reseda.
Yes, you're right. Tampa north of Roscoe is Northridge; south of Roscoe is Reseda. And the farther north you go on Tampa, the better it looks.

I recall that restaurant is either 99 Pho or Pho 99, although I think there's another pho only a few doors away. Just a few minutes ago I was just at Banluck Market also a few doors away, and All Star Nutrition just around the corner. I'll have to try that pho place again. I wasn't thrilled the first time, although I love all things Asian.

I'm trying to make you home sick.
