Hi everyone, I have narrowed my search and looking for somewhere close to LA where rent is between 600-800 sharing. Long beach was suggested and wonder if there are any other walkable, beach /coastal towns close to LA that fit the description too? Thanks, Julie.

Where in Long Beach do you plan to live?

How many people are sharing? That's important information. If it is just two, you won't find much to rent in beach communities closer to L.A. except maybe the seedier parts of Venice, which isn't as great as it may sound.

Even if three are sharing, it's gonna be tough to find something big enough for $2400 near an LA beach, unless all three of you plan to share a 1BR, and even that might not be enough at most beach towns... Maybe a 2BR in some of the less sexy parts of Redondo Beach? I'd take Redondo over Long Beach myself, if I had the choice.

If you consider Culver City/Palms to be close enough to the beach, you could look there.

Thanks for your help. I won't have a car, is redondo walkable? I will have to share with a roommate /roommates initially. Is redondo cheaper than long beach? Looking for the cheapest place closest to the beach that is walkable and not more than an hour from LA

That would be Long beach. Not Redondo. Long Beach is cheap (for LA), easy without a car, and by the beach. Redondo is expensive, hard-ish without a car, and by the beach.

Be sure to stay around the Downtown Long Beach area, though. To the east is very expensive, the west is very run down, and the north is rough without a car.
