I'm going to add to the chorus: don't do it. Living in the Antelope Valley has been a soul-sucking experience. I can't wait to get out of here.

Here are some recent photos of the west side of the Antelope Valley. Judge for yourself if it looks like hell.....

Jobs are not plentiful unless you are an aerospace engineer. Many people commute from AV to LA daily. It can be a rough commute on man and machine. The AV Press did an article years ago focusing on the effects of kids in daycare for 10+ hours because of the commute of their parents. It said some kids would just stare at the wall after a while.

If you move to California picking the right area is important. Lancaster is not one of them. The shock is not easy and in those areas it is way too harsh. Try areas with a higher income level. As a Canadian i did not like being in many areas. I live near the ocean in the LA county/ OC county line area. Nice, families not gang ridden and aprox incomes around the 150000 area. Safe and clean. Like anywhere it takes effort to keep it that way. The infestation tries to creep in. visit our beaches on a hot weekend and you will see what I mean. Luckily they shuttle back out...

those rocky mountain tops and alpine evergreens sure don't look like the a.v. where *i* live. this is more like what I see every day (once I drive out & away from the gang-infested towns...)
