Default Specific sublet questions

Hi,
Here is my situation. i currently live in a 2 bedroom in N. hollywood and my roomate needs to move out now. The lease ends At the end of May. BUT here's the thing, I need to stay in this apartment through Sept 1st at which time I will be moving into another place with some friends. So, I need to find someone to move into the 2nd bedroom of current apt. through sept 1st.

Here are my questions:
1. i assume that after June 1 my current lease shifts to a month-to-month arrangement. But, does that change if a new roomate moves in?
2. My property manager reqires that any switch of roomate be approved, so i will not be ablt to just bring someone inhere to sublet, they need to know about it. ANd my concern is that they will require a new lease be drawn up, making it dificult for me to move out on my target date of sept 1st.

Ideally, I would want to just bring someone in, but i don't think it can be that simple. IF this was just a question of getting someone new in here until June 1st (the end of the lease) it would be much simpler. The issue arises with the fact that i will need to extend through sept 1st with this new roomate and then leave.

Any advice in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

First of you need to contact your apartment manager and discuss with them if your lease allows you to sublet. Check the California Landlord/Tenant Handbook to see what rights you have.

I would share this information with the manager. When I had the same situation, the manager was okay with allowing the new person to simply take over when my old roomie moved out and let the lease end when it was suppose to. Just please, please tell the new person the place is only temporary unless the landlord will allow that person to bring in a new roommate. Another option just popped in my head: the new roommate might sign a lease for just his/her responsibilty and you can move in September.
